The Manitoba government announced the loosening of some COVID-19 restrictions. This new measures will allow restaurants, gyms, and churches to reopen. Premier Brian Pallister and Dr. Brent Roussin spoke about easing restrictions at a press conference in Winnipeg, advising Manitobans to keep adhering to the fundamental public health measures.

The New Public Health Rules Set for Three Weeks

The new rules under COVID-19 restrictions that allow restaurants, gyms, and churches to reopen in Manitoba will stay in place for the next three weeks, which began on February 12th.

Restaurants are able to stay open until 10 p.m. now as long as they adhere to “household only” dining rules, which allows only household members to sit together.

Churches reopened at 10% capacity or 50 people at most, whichever is lower.

Gyms and fitness centres reopened at 25% capacity and other indoor sporting facilities, such as martial arts studios and rinks. All of them will be able to provide individual training only, and everyone have to wear a mask.

As for outdoor sporting facilities, they are allowed to organize practices and casual sports, with the exception of multi-team tournaments.

Loosened Restrictions for Other Commercial Real Estate Properties

Manitoba has also loosened COVID-19 restrictions for other commercial real estate (CRE) properties as well as facilities that offer personal services.

Some of those include nail salons, tanning centres, wellness centres, and tattoo parlours. Libraries and facilities that offer electrolysis can also reopen, and self-help groups can hold meetings.

All of these must follow the 25% capacity limit. This rule stays in place for retail stores, hair salons, and barbershops.

Once the three-week period of loosened restrictions is over, the Manitoba government and the province’s chief public health officer will reconsider the new rules. Pallister and Dr. Roussin urged Manitobans to be even more cautious than before, as that is the best way to ensure more reopenings and prevent the return of tightened restrictions.

“These new orders allow us to resume many of the activities and services we enjoy, but we certainly cannot let our guard down – there’s lots of reasons to remain cautious,” said Dr. Roussin.

Summary

Due to Manitobans being cautious and following the necessary public health measures, the province is slowly returning to normal. Some restaurants are choosing not to reopen while the restriction is at 25%, while others are completely booking out for dine-in reservations every since the announcement was made.

Adhering to the new COVID-19 rules will ensure the further easing of restrictions, allowing more CRE properties to reopen for business.

Now is a great time to check out CRE in Western Canada; including, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
