 Last Week’s Proceedings – 16th October, 2008
Our last dinner meeting at the Aberdeen Boat Club was chaired by President Francesco. After twelve weeks at the ABC and meeting in the Club’s top floor Harbour room with its panoramic views, we will be back among the familiar wolds of Deepwater Bay Golf Club with its newly installed lift arrangement ready working to aid some of our less mobile members to attend meetings.

Guests were welcomed by Fellowship Chairman PP Gaston Chan.

Darwin Forer was our speaker on “The Difference between the US and Canadian Property Markets”. Darwin, who was born in Western Canada, first visited Hong Kong in 1983 and moved here several years later. He has an  engineering degree and has been building things of concrete and wood since childhood. He joined several people in a real estate development business in the mid 70's, building some 11,000 residential and commercial retail units.

Commercial complexes across Canada, Darwin claimed, offer investors the best opportunity in the market with low risk and a high upside. The Canadian commercial real estate market is one of the most stable in the world, offering significant advantages over residential real estate. Stability from well-known established tenants  mmediate cash-flow based on existing leases with regional multi-national companies.

Canada is considered one of the safest, low-risk places to invest providing established and watertight contractual laws; a business-friendly environment; a modern infrastructure; a stable political situation; and stable and continuous economic growth.
